Pediatricians specialize in the care of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatricians provide a range of services from well-child care, to basic childhood immunizations and illnesses, to managing complex medical conditions and chronic disorders.
Our pediatricians are members of the University of Iowa Children's Hospital team which means they work hand-in-hand with all pediatric specialists at UI Children's Hospital. The use of one electronic medical record for each patient ensures constant and timely communication between your child’s entire medical team.
MyChart is a secure, online service that allows you to access your child’s health information and keep in touch with his or her medical team. With MyChart, you can:

For Expecting Parents
It’s important to find a doctor you feel comfortable with, which is why we offer free prenatal appointments. We recommend you schedule this appointment late in your second trimester or early in the third trimester so you have an opportunity to meet and discuss your baby’s care before his or her arrival. Review our handy list of questions to ask your doctor.
Our pediatricians also staff the newborn nursery at the hospital, will check on your baby regularly, and answer any questions you may have. Before going home, we will help you schedule your baby’s first well-check visit. This appointment should take place within one to three days after going home from the hospital.
Regular checkups are important to monitor your child’s growth and development and can help your doctor identify any problems early on. At a well-child visit, your pediatrician will address all health care and developmental questions and concerns you may have about your child. Regular well-child visits are scheduled at:
- 1 month
- 2 months
- 4 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months
- 15 months

- 24 months
