University of Iowa Children’s Hospital has been dedicated to meeting the health
care needs of children and families since 1919. As Iowa’s only comprehensive
children’s hospital, we provide care for children from birth to young
adulthood. Services range from promoting wellness to the care of general
childhood illness, surgery, traumatic injuries, life-threatening and chronic
illnesses, and developmental disabilities.
As part of an academic medical center, UI Children’s Hospital also performs
groundbreaking research to help solve the mysteries of childhood diseases, in
addition to training the next generation of health care professionals.

University of Iowa Children's Hospital is a state-of-the-art pediatric facility that is part of the comprehensive resources of UI Hospitals and Clinics. Our physical facilities will grow considerably when the UI Children's Hospital building, designed from top to bottom with the needs of pediatric patients and their families in mind, is completed in the spring of 2016. More than 200 physicians and surgeons with special expertise and certification in the care of children provide the medical and surgical care. These specialists include board-certified physicians in pediatrics and many specialties.
More than 400 specially-trained pediatric nurses provide care to children at UI Children's Hospital. These nurses strive to build on our traditional missions of patient care, education and research.

Child Life specialists provide a variety of activities to promote normal child development as well as care for the emotional needs of children and their families.
