Patient- and Family-Centered Care
At UI Children's Hospital, you can expect your child to receive extraordinary pediatric health care that is patient- and family-centered. We believe parents and other family members are the experts on their child. We promise to listen to you and your child to learn how best we might work together to improve the health and well-being of your child and family.
Our philosophy of patient- and family-centered health care is an approach to the planning, delivery and evaluation of health care that is grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships among children, their families and health care professionals.
We promise that at all times, your child will receive care that reflects the core principles of patient- and family-centered care:
- Dignity and Respect: We promise to listen to and honor the perspectives and choices of your child and family. We will integrate your knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds into the planning and delivery of your child’s health care.
- Information Sharing: We promise to communicate and share complete and unbiased information with you and your child in ways that are affirming and useful. We will give you timely, complete and accurate information so that you can make the best health care decisions for you and your child.
- Participation: We promise to encourage and support you in participating in your child’s care and decision-making at the level you choose.
- Collaboration: We invite you to help us make hospital-wide changes and improvements in how we care for kids, in policies and programs, as well as in our facility planning and design.
