Our patients and their families benefit from the presence of specialized pediatricians, known as hospitalists, who coordinate each hospitalized patient's care. Your hospitalist will organize communication among the different specialists caring for your child. The hospitalist will also be the main physician for giving you updates on your child’s condition and care. Our hospitalists communicate with your child’s primary care physician to assure that follow up care back home goes smoothly.
A pediatric hospitalist specializes in the care of hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents. At University of Iowa Children's Hospital, our hospitalists are board-certified pediatricians who provide clinical care on the general pediatric inpatient service and newborn nursery. We also provide consultative services.
In the hospital, we care for patients admitted with acute and/or chronic illnesses. We specialize in caring for medically complex patients. We also work closely with surgeons for post-operative management of patients. Our hospitalists work hard to provide coordinated, top quality care that is patient and family centered. It is our goal to provide the best care possible for our patients and their families.
