Surgery for Children

When your child needs surgery, you want the best team available.
UI Children’s Hospital has the only group of surgeons in eastern Iowa and western Illinois specifically trained in Pediatric Surgery. We specialize in the care of babies, children, and adolescents across a broad range of pediatric surgical conditions. We work with a group of pediatric anesthesiologists who care for all children during surgery.
We use the newest surgical techniques and the latest medical discoveries to provide the best possible care for your child. We offer traditional surgeries, as well as minimally invasive and robotic surgeries that reduce pain, minimize incisions, and shorten hospital stays.
Our multidisciplinary care team includes surgeons, pediatric anesthesiologists, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, technologists, and support staff. All team members specialize and are fully dedicated to the care of infants and children.
Pain management, nutrition, and social and psychological services are part of our holistic approach to the care of children. Our child-friendly and family-centered care includes the Child Life Program, tutoring, art and music therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. We partner closely with parents and family members so we can provide the best care and the most supportive environment to children.
It’s the type of care families expect at one of the nation’s top academic medical centers.
It’s the type of care patients at UI Children’s Hospital receive.
